The modern glazing and production market offers a wide selection of materials and glass types. Each of them performs a certain function, the main of which are:

  • Soundproofing;
  • Thermal insulation;
  • Protective function;
  • Aesthetic function.

It is clear that with the development of technologies in the field of glass production, the functionality of each product began to increase. Today, modern glass materials have several functional features that can be changed depending on the preferences of the client. Thanks to such universal functionality, modern glasses are used in many areas of construction, design, production and of course glazing. Currently, glass is used to produce not only windows and doors, but also facades, partitions, stairs, balcony fences, interior items, and even utensils. In today’s post, we will try to talk about the main types of glass.

What Are The Main Glass Types?

Before we talk about the main glass types, you need to decide on a concept. By the type of glass is meant a production method or a technology for processing glass, because of which glass acquires certain properties and characteristics. Further, we will give a brief description of the main types of glass and their functional features, but we will not dwell on the method of their production.

Tempered Glass

This is one of the most structurally durable glass models. Tempered glass, also known as reinforced glass, has enhanced toughness compared to ordinary glass. Depending on the strength class, tempered glass can be resistant to scratches and chips and to explosions and bullets from firearms.

In addition, even in the event of damage, such glass does not break into small sharp fragments, which means that the risk of injury is minimized. Due to its characteristics, tempered glass is often used for glazing facades of buildings, the production of partitions and fences (in offices, banks, cash desks, currency exchange points), shop windows (jewelry stores, museums) and more.

Reflective Glass (Solar control glass)

This is one of the highly efficient glasses for protection from sunlight and ultraviolet radiation. As a rule, the outer side of such glass has a mirror surface. By type of sun protection, such glasses can be light absorbing or reflecting light.

Insulating Glass

Such glass may consist of two or more layers, the gaps between which are filled with vacuum or gas. Such glass type provides effective solutions for heat and sound insulation.

Laminated Glass

This glass also has a protective function. Due to the special production technology, this glass types has increased strength characteristics.
